Food is a basic human right for every human. We help people to live healthy lives so that they can contribute to their communities.
Our community nutrition program is the biggest program of the Ashram. It’s 24/7 program. Tons of rice, vegetables & dried food products are used to prepare food for the vulnerable. Our nutrition program includes:
- School Sandwiches
- Daily Meals-Soup Kitchen
- Feeding stations
- Community Partners
- Community Centres
- Food Hampers
- Disaster Relief
- Evening Community Drive
- School Events
- Community Events
- Unskilled Labour feeding
- Sunday Program
Over the last few years our nutrition program has grown tenfold from a few hundred people to almost 5000 mouths per day.
We pack food for the unskilled labour returning home with no earnings for the day. Our evening food drive into the community feed people that can’t come to the Ashram, especially young children & toddlers.
We see infinite potential in every child & we help to unfold that potential into something good & positive.
Over the last decade we have been focussing our effort and resources on education. We’ve been encouraging & supporting thousands of children from our communities and beyond to attend school.
Preference is given to children that regularly attend our programs. Children are also required to produce their school progress and attendance reports as proof of their perseverance. The Ashram supports vulnerable children with:
- School fees
- Stationery
- Uniforms
- Mentoring & coaching
- School shoes
- School Blazers
- School bags
- Rewards Program
- Calculators
- Tuitions
- School Transport
- Project Resources
- Library
- Study programs
- Computers
- Internet for study
We monitor and manage children’s progress throughout the course of the year as a prerequisite for additional & future support. Children must also be part of our Learn, Love & Grow programs to qualify for full support.
People may not be educated but they have the potential & abilities to learn a skill, & to use that skill for doing constructive & positive things.
The Ashram’s early skills development program was to engage unskilled & unemployed people from the community & get them involved in the operations & building projects of the Ashram. Working alongside skilled these unskilled people learnt a trade or some form of it, to be able to earn.
Some of them were employed by our donors in their businesses. Whilst others chose to remain in Ashram’s operations. Our latest project is a partnership between the Ashram & a funded sewing skills agency, to train people from the community. This is an industry accredited & certification course. The courses are a real success with few courses been completed & more than a hundred people trained & skilled.
The Ashram’s skills development offered & offers:
- Sewing courses
- Trade Skills
- Ashram operations
- Teacher course
- Hairdressing
- Small business skills
- Assistants learning
- Cooks & kitchen skills
- Home based care
- Drivers
- Computer literacy
- Facilities management

South Africa has one of the youngest populations in the world which is the greatest potential to have for economic development. But sadly South Africa also has one the highest youth & young adults unemployment & disengagement rates in the world.
Over the last decade the Ashram has been engaging, teaching & training more youth & young adults. Our empowerment program together with our school support program has grown immensely, & is the second biggest program in terms of cost & numbers after our nutrition program.
Our youth empowerment program focuses on people transformation; transformation of youth, transformation of our communities & transformation of our society.
Youth from far & wide way beyond our local communities are part of our youth empowerment programs. Youth that have grown into young adults with us, are already making an impact by supporting themselves, their families & their communities.
