Our Mission
The Ashram is a Participative Development Program, whereby the poor & needy are encouraged & fully supported to lead themselves out of poverty & struggle towards success. All our programs are centred on the main idea of 'Lift Yourself by Yourself'
|
Where We Work
The Sarva Dharma Ashram is based in the government designated low cost housing project of Welbedacht. The main target region for the Ashram's activities is the community of Welbedacht although over the years this has grown into many more communities such as Umlazi, Marianhill, Savannah Park, and beyond.
|
Our Goals
To alleviate poverty among the poor and needy
To provide opportunities to grow and become self sustaining
To support the poor and needy in self growth and progress
To provide the necessary facilities to support the delivery of our services
To create a mindset among the people of receiving and giving back to the community
|
Business Model
The Ashram operates on a simple business model, which is, to identify the needs of the poor, and to satisfy those needs. The Ashram is well aware that needs, and scale of needs is a changing factor in social work. Based on these changing factors the Ashram is continuously assessing and adjusting its programs based on community participation and financial resources. Outcomes and results is another key key factor in determining where, and how much of resources, are invested. Another important business practice in ensuring cost savings and financial viability, is driving efficiency within the existing model. This has become the single biggest focus of the Ashram in the recent years, and it is paying off.
|
Funding
The Ashram relies on the public and small businesses for all its funding. Funding is also generated internally through many fundraising efforts. In addition to cash contributions the Ashram accepts donations 'in kind' in the form of food items, clothing, gift packs, toys and stationery, building material, etc.
Every effort is being made to source funding from the government which is proving difficult.
|
Financial Accountability
The Ashram is a registered non profit, public benefit organisation, and is therefore obligated to meet strict reporting criteria as determined by the necessary authorities. Most importantly the Ashram has an obligation to its donors and beneficiaries in ensuring that the community benefits the maximum, based on best business practices. The Ashram holds itself financially accountable by maintaining up to date financial records and regular reporting to its donors.
