The Sarva Dharma Ashram is a perfect example of Service to Society; A beacon of Love & Hope in a challenging environment, the perfect partnership of God's Grace & man's determined selfless spirit to serve. Some call this religion, others refer to it as spirituality and many say it is charity, call it what you may, it is in fact the home of all the above put together; it is the Home of Love, Compassion and Sacrifice.

My first encounter with the famous Swami ( commonly ) known as Guru of Naicker's Farm.
My conscience compels me disclose my status to the community before this encounter. I was a newly released maximum category of prisoner, in 2004 Welbedacht East in Chatsworth when I met Swami. I was still on parole and not sure whether I will be accepted in the community , when I fell into the loving arms of Swami. A man who has proved himself to can with-stand the test of time due to the fact that  he can practice  compassion to a  community which is composed of different people from different walks of life. I mean  that the community where he renders skills development and feeding has a history of squatter camp dwelling, the poorest of the poor.  I believe it is commonly known that this category of citizens has a high potential of rape incidents, hunger, poor hygiene practices and other different forms of criminality, thus creating a very hardened society.  In order to yield a positive outcome when rehabilitating this kind of society one needs to be pious , thus possess a capability to expose an orderly pre-calculated wisdom that can change the evil actions of a human being and put him in an everlasting change.  It should be born in mind that these  citizens were placed by council in RDP houses and do not want to abstain from their different forms of criminality.  It is here where Swami resides and renders programmes that cause a tremendous impact in the society. Although he does not receive a cent from the government but I see his cause growing from strength to strength and I solemnly swear that I am an witness of these things.

It is through the hands and guidance of Swami of Naicker's Farm that my life has changed.  His first stance  was to offer me a labour work so that I can feed my children from whom I have been separated for a long time by my imprisonment. I was highly motivated to see Swami showing us personally how to do and persevere a labourous task, thus he was setting humbleness in the eyes of the Creator and man and I was inspired that I ought to be everything( equal ) to all man ( human beings ).  His second stance was to recognize my level of education  and  improve my life by sending me to a free computer course.  After completing my foundation phase in computers, Swami encouraged me to start voluntarily a computer class in Sarva Dharma Ashram  so that I can put into practice the modern skill which I have acquired.  Later I realized that Swami was training me to contribute  to the community  not for the sake of gain but by putting faith to the Lord so that the Lord can shower the blessings upon me. Those blessings came in disguise when again Swami motivated me to start an Early Childhood Development Center called Eyethu Pre-school & Creche. Swami was taking me by his hand, elevating me to the next level and creating me in his own image since he himself is very fond of children.

Through his support of feeding children , sending stationery  and different kinds of eats at times, our ECD center managed to enroll + 70 children every year which serve as our source of income since now I do not work alone in the creche. The assorted colors of paint  that were donated by Swami  are a tremendous source of child simulation. The toilets and sinks that were sponsored by Ashram made us qualify to meet minimum standards as required by The Department of Social Development , in other words we are a recognized institution by government departments such as Health, Municipality. Now I can see my self running a small business at a level of being a prominent man in the community and being rehabilitated through the inspirational ideas of Swami. Through a continuous support rendered by Ashram, our ECD center has become self sustaining since there is no funding received from the government.

In the past years I have received countless grocery hampers from Ashram, thus experiencing a ministry of feed the poor, clothe the naked and strengthen the weak.

Again Swami has put me in a national spotlight by advising me to plant a multipurpose grass ( wonder grass. ) called vetiver. Vetiver planting is likely to expose me into the world market.  Swami sent me to an organization called Surkiyo Mahikari for further information which in turn referred me to the Department o f Agriculture.  Through the advice form the department of Agriculture now I am in a process of forming an agricultural co-operative so that the co-operative can be a supplier to the government for the purpose rehabilitating land that is exposed to soil erosion.

Now I am likely to be  exposed to international market since vetiver is a world focus.

It is through the hands and guidance of Swami Ramkripananda of Naicker's Farm that my life is transformed.

The Ashram's community outreach programs are family and community centred programs, whereby every member is given a chance to grow. This encourages growth and unity of families and the community. Besides focusing on children, the Ashram has programs for fathers and mothers too. The Ashram is a long term effort, commitment, and dedication to the community of Welbedacht. This has made the Ashram a household name in Welbedacht and surrounding communities. Similar to the children and youth empowerment the only requirement to be part of the Ashram's empowerment programs is, one must be willing to change themselves through self effort

The Ashram offers adults:

Adult Literacy Classes  Skills Training Job Opportunities Cooking and Baking Classes
Sewing Classes Hairdressing and Beauty Classes Hygiene Workshops Home care Workshops

The Ashram was formed in the year 1997 and with humble beginnings and a grand vision it has grown from strength to strength. Over a period of 20 years as Welbedacht started to grow, numbers increased and more services were added. And as more services grew buildings too grew. Resources had to be expanded. Today the Ashram is one of the most busiest, and one of the most service oriented centres in Durban.

Likhit Japa is small, potent and spiritually charged discipline that has many benefits. Some of the benefits are:

  1. For children that write the name of the Lord continuously in large numbers, it increases their writing skills, memory and develops mind and hand synchronisation.
  2. Focusing the mind for long periods on dedicated task improves concentration which requires dedication and commitment.
  3. The greatest benefit is that when ones focuses the mind on the name of God, the qualities of God pervades and permeates the mind, therefore changing the nature of the mind.

The Ashram has a group known as the Mantra Club where people of all ages write numbers in large numbers. The mantras are counted and the top 3 individuals in the different age groups are given food hampers, toys and household goods as a reward. One must be a regular member to participate. The Mantra Club for children has membership of +500 children; the membership for adults is currently 200.

Club members are rewarded bountifully. Children are given full school bursaries which includes stationery, school uniforms including shoes, and school fees. Adults are given food hampers on all special occasions and most Sundays. They also get preference to clothing and many household items.

The Club is becoming very popular and numbers have been growing every year. This program has also encouraged the locals of Wlebedacht to participate in many other activities of the Ashram. The Ashram is seeing 3 generations of people involved in the Likhit Japa program. Most of the volunteers, and workers of the Ashram have been and are still members of the Mantra Club. All of the core group of children at the Ashram too have come from the Mantra Club. These are the real life results of Likhit Japa and its potency to transform the mind and individual.
